NSPCC

The grant funding for this event allowed us to reduce the cost of our tickets to ensure that it was an affordable event. We had a high turnout, with many attendees noting that the low cost of the tickets encouraged them to attend.
Type of Grant

Club Grant

What the Grant Supported

The Club Grant subsidised ticket costs for the event in December 2025, making it more affordable and accessible for students to attend. The reduced ticket price contributed to a high turnout, with many attendees noting that the affordability encouraged them to participate. Held at the beginning of the December exam period, the event provided students with an opportunity to relax, socialise, and connect with others, supporting student wellbeing during a busy time of the academic year.

Long-Term Impacts
  • The grant has already contributed to a noticeable increase in membership.
  • Subsidised member ticket prices have encouraged greater engagement with our society.
  • The event has raised awareness of our upcoming volunteering initiatives.
  • It has also promoted our future fundraising activities.
  • We expect these initiatives to benefit both our members and the wider student community.
Inclusivity & Accessibility

"The grant allowed us to make this event more financially accessible by reducing ticket prices, which helped to alleviate the cost for many students. This also meant that we were able to use our budget to secure a venue in the Glasgow University Union, a central location right on the university campus which is easy to reach. Additionally, the grant allowed us to increase the scale of our event, meaning that more students were able to attend. We were therefore able to provide an event in which students from a range of year groups and backgrounds could participate"

Lessons Learned

"I believe that the most significant lesson our society gained from the grant application process was learning how to plan an event more strategically. The application questions encouraged us to think intentionally about the wider purpose of our event, and to reflect on the impact that this would have on students. From an organisational perspective, delivering an event of this scale has been a valuable learning experience. It has improved our confidence in planning larger events, and we now feel like we can host an event to this scale in the future"

Additional SRC Support Provided
  • The President and Vice President attended the Club Events and Comms Workshop, which encouraged the society to apply for grant funding.
  • The workshop provided valuable information on the support available from the SRC, particularly for societies that regularly organise fundraising events.
  • The President and Vice President met with Meg to discuss the grant and received guidance on the application process.
  • Ongoing communication with Meg throughout the application process helped ensure the application was completed successfully.
Would Your Society Apply for an SRC Grant Again?

"We would definitely look to apply for additional grants for future events, as the process has been extremely straightforward. As previously mentioned, we are primarily a society that focuses on fundraising for the NSPCC, so being able to organise an event on a large scale allows us to raise a large amount of donations. We have always aspired to organise an event of this scale, and we would like to do this again in the future."
