Volunteering is a fantastic way to make new friends, gain valuable skills and experience, boost your CV and, most importantly, have fun! We’re here to make sure that you leave university with more than a degree, by advising and helping you choose volunteering options that are best for you, factoring other commitments you may have, what you can give, and what you want to achieve. Whether you’re home based or living on campus; studying physics, art, medicine, or languages; whether you’re tight for time or have plenty to spare; shy or confident, keen or unsure; we’ve got something for you that will enhance your time here.
We work with charities, social enterprises, community projects, and public bodies across the city, giving preference to those who don’t have the profile of more established outfits and who really need some additional support. From community gardening and paired reading, to supporting refugees and the homeless, and mentoring vulnerable people, there is a diverse and broad range of options available, each certified and reviewed regularly by staff. And if there’s something you’re keen to get involved in that we don’t currently offer, let us know! Your feedback is important to us and ensures our volunteering opportunities remain interesting and relevant to you.
By registering with us as a volunteer, you will receive support from our staff team and have access to your own unique profile, which you can use to keep a record of your volunteering and log any hours, training courses, and skills acquired throughout your time at university. This, in turn, helps us to confirm, recognise and credit your volunteering, whether that be through your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), the Saltire Awards, or our annual Volunteering, Clubs and Societies (VCS) Awards. You can read more about our rewards and recognition scheme here.
