ENT Society
"We ran a successful first ever Undergraduate ENT Conference ran by a university within Scotland, marking a significant milestone for us. We also received numerous great feedback from delegates, as well as consultant surgeons who attended to speak at our conference. This conference has significantly boosted our visibility."

What the Grant Supported
"The Big Ideas grant supported the society’s first Annual Undergraduate Ears, Nose and Throat Conference by subsidising UofG student ticket prices, making the event more affordable for 80 students while providing access to consultant-led teaching, hands-on workshops, poster presentations and networking opportunities with ENT specialists. The conference also offered valuable portfolio-building and research presentation experience, supported the development of leadership and event management skills among organisers, and laid the foundations for an annual student-led event that will strengthen surgical education and academic engagement at UofG."
Long-Term Impacts
- Increased access to consultant-led teaching, hands-on workshops and research presentation opportunities for medical students.
- Provided valuable networking and portfolio-building opportunities to support future specialty applications.
- Developed leadership, teamwork, and event management skills among student organisers.
Inclusivity and Accessibility
“Receiving this grant allowed us to significantly subsidise ticket prices for our ENT Conference, ensuring students from all financial backgrounds could attend. It enabled us to make the event accessible to a wider range of year groups by covering core costs such as venue hire and materials. This support allowed us to focus on providing high-quality educational content and hands-on workshops without financial barriers, creating a more inclusive and enriching experience for all attendees.”
Lessons Learned
“Through the grant application process, our society learned the importance of clear planning, budgeting and defining measurable impact. We gained valuable experience in structuring proposals, setting realistic financial goals and aligning our event aims with university values such as inclusion and student development. The process also strengthened our teamwork and communication skills, as we collaborated closely to present a unified and well-organised application.”

Would your Society Apply for an SRC Grant Again?
“Yes, we would consider applying for additional SRC grants in the future. This support would help us expand the scale and impact of our annual ENT Conference, allowing us to offer more hands-on workshops, invite external speakers and further reduce delegate costs to ensure accessibility for all students. Future funding could also help us develop new initiatives such as surgical skills days and mentorship schemes to enhance student engagement in ENT.”
