Cheese Society
Because of the grant, we have been able to host larger tastings, which has meant that our society has grown. Also, as a new society, being able to purchase our own materials has given us the confidence that the society will be able to continue past the inaugural committee. – Allison Ward (2025-26 Secretary)
Type of Grant
Club Grant
What the Grant Supported
As a new society, this Club Grant was used to fund items needed to have regular tasting events on campus, covering food materials such as cheeses, breads and other items for bi-monthly sessions attended by around 45–50 members. The funding enabled higher-quality, more professional events, improved allergy awareness and catering and supported the society’s ability to accommodate its growing membership.
Long-Term Impacts
-
Enabled the purchase of long-lasting materials, ensuring the society can continue running tasting and food-related events in the future.
-
Reduced pressure on committee members by removing the need to personally provide kitchenware and event equipment.
-
Supported the delivery of larger events, contributing to society growth and increased membership.
-
Strengthened long-term sustainability by equipping the society with resources beyond the inaugural committee’s term.
Inclusivity & Accessibility
“Having society specific materials means that we are much better equipped to cater to food allergies as we are able to know with absolute certainty what food has touched each of our pieces. Because of this, we are able to be more welcoming to anyone with food allergies.”
Lessons Learned
“We are pleased to have learned of the help the SRC can provide societies, as we are a relatively new society and would have struggled to scale up our events to our growing membership without this grant.”
Additional SRC Support Provided
- Collaborated with the SRC on an event for LGBTQ+ History Month for future event.
- Used the SRC website to sell tickets, promote upcoming event where equipment was used.
Would Your Society Apply for an SRC Grant Again?
“We don’t have anything that would require external funding at the moment, but if something were to arise, we would absolutely apply for SRC grants in the future.”
