Jewish Society

We believe that cross-community engagement has never been more crucial, and we hope that this event will benefit students from all faith groups and opens the door to future collaboration.

What the Grant Supported

The Big Ideas Grant enabled Glasgow Jewish Society to host its Interfaith Friday Night Dinner, bringing together 50+ students from faith-based societies across the University. Grant funding covered the cost of catering for students attedees, allowing tickets to remain free for UofG students and ensuring the dinner was accessible regardless of financial circumstances. A limited number of paid tickets were made available to non-UofG attendees.

Long Term Impact
  • Strengthened cross-community engagement by bringing together students from different faith groups.
  • Created opportunities for future collaboration between faith-based societies.
  • Promoted the event through the SRC website, helping to reach students who may not have previously engaged with Glasgow Jewish Society or other faith societies.
Inclusivity and Accessibility

"Without the grant, we would be unable to source Halal food, which is critical to the nature of the interfaith event. Similarly, receiving help from the SRC in other ways, such as booking a room to host the dinner has ensured that this event was accessible, and providing hot water urns to keep the rules of Shabbat. Finally, receiving the grant has allowed us to keep tickets free for UofG students, allowing full economic accessibility."

Lessons Learned

"We have learned to accurately price and account for all costs when putting on an event. Similarly, looking at numerous different outlets to find the best price for food and refreshments."

Additional SRC Support Provided
  • Met with the SRC Club and Societies Engagement Coordinator for guidance on the grant application process and advice to strengthen the application.
  • Booked the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club through the SRC Events Team to host the event.
  • Borrowed hot water urns from the SRC Lending Library to support event delivery.
Would Your Society Apply for an SRC Grant Again?

"We would definitely consider applying for additional grants from the SRC in the future. We would love to make our Interfaith Dinner an annual event and would definitely apply for the grant again to allow this to happen."
