Class Reps

Class Reps are essential to both the University and the SRC. They allow students to air their views to the academics that run their department on issues like course content, teaching and resources.

What are Class Reps and can I become one?

Any student at the University can become a Class Rep. Class Reps are elected in class during the first few weeks of each semester with the class lecturer or course convenor organising a brief election. It’s quite simple, no big speeches required. Just give a quick “hello”, tell the class your name and why you would be a good Class Rep.  Some Schools or subject areas might hold an online election, where you have to submit a short written statement beforehand.

Class Reps are essential to both the University and the SRC. They allow students to air their views to the academics and support staff that run their department on issues like course content, teaching and resources. They are the first point of contact for students who have a problem, or suggestion about a class as a whole. It’s vital that you’re a visible member of the class and that students know the best way that they can get in touch with you.

The SRC provides training for Class and Postgraduate Research Reps near the beginning of each semester and can be contacted throughout the year for support and advice. Training is an important part of the role and will give you the tools to tackle any issues that arise.

If you’re looking to contact your Class Rep, please visit ‘MyClassReps’ on MyGlasgow where the Class Reps for your classes are listed.

Class Reps are elected for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught courses. Postgraduate Research students fulfilling this role are known as PGR reps.

“It was very useful, thank you”               “Enjoyed the opportunity to network with other class reps”

“Mix of individual learning and group work, worked well”

Class Rep Training 2022-23

This year the Class Rep Training is in two parts:

Part 1 is a self-study Moodle course. Enrol yourself (after the start of semester 1) here: Class Representative Training 2022-23

Part 2 is a Zoom seminar which you can book onto via MyClassReps.  There are a variety of dates and times available.  Please ensure you complete the Moodle course before you attend the Zoom seminar.

In order for your role as a Class Representative to be recognised on your University transcript, you must attend a training session and have been confirmed by your subject at the end of the year that you’ve fulfilled the class rep role.

However, if you’ve previously attended a training session in the last four years then there is no need for you to be trained again.
