Toby Reid (He/Him)

Hi! My name is Toby and as your School of Modern Languages and Culture school rep I will:
- Ensure SMLC continues being a strong community where everyone feels included
- Ensure all students going on a year abroad have the resources they need to thrive (financially, linguistically, and culturally)
- Call for reforms to the enrolment system which has taken a toll on so many SMLC students
- Encourage continuing cultural exchanges such as language cafes and meet ups to support learning and community outside the classroom
As the class rep for French over the past 2 years, I have loved representing students and contributing to a sense of community within SMLC. I am a 4th year joint honours French/Geography student from Aberdeen. I love reading and cooking and I can’t wait to represent you!
Rosa Strange (They/Them)

If I am elected to this position, I will aim to ensure that all students within the School of Modern Languages and Cultures are fully represented within the SRC and that all voices, opinions, and concerns are listened to. Having been a class rep twice myself I understand both the challenges and the rewards of the role, and I will ensure a smooth system of feedback and communication between class reps and SMLC staff, so that courses are created to reflect what works best for students.
Over the past few years there have been occasions of discussion in Scottish universities about potentially cutting SMLC departments and courses. It is now even more important than ever to protect these departments and to encourage as many students as possible to gain the skills, knowledge, and joy of learning a new language. Learning languages has given me so many wonderful experiences in my life, and I will use my role to ensure that Modern Languages and Cultures remains a subject area popular with the student body.
