Hugh Southall

My name is Hugh Southall (he/him), and I am a third-year Civil Engineering student. I am running for School of Engineering Representative because I want a fair and open university. I have previously been an SRC Fresher’s Helper, so I know how the SRC works and where to go to get things done.
As your school rep I will focus on:

  • Improving relations between the school and students. The School of Engineering needs to improve how decisions are communicated. The exam window was shortened with no consultation from students. The decision was taken last summer, but we didn’t find out until October. This episode has left many students feeling that the school is not listening to us.
  • Ensuring last year’s zoom lecture recordings are available. It wastes both the student’s and the lecturer’s time for a student to email a lecturer asking for a recording if the student misses a lecture.
  • Better coordinated coursework submission deadlines. Often, we have too many submissions due in a short period

If elected, I will stand up for you and make sure your voice is heard. Every engineer deserves to succeed.
