GUSRC is now accepting applications for the next Editor(s)-in-Chief of The Glasgow Guardian — the University of Glasgow’s award-winning student newspaper.
We’re seeking two committed, collaborative, and capable University of Glasgow students to take the lead from July 2025 to June 2026.
If you’re passionate about journalism, ready to take on editorial responsibility, and keen to guide a team through a full publishing year, this could be your next challenge.

About the Role
As Editor-in-Chief, you’ll take on a central role in running The Glasgow Guardian. You’ll work closely with your co-editor and a volunteer editorial team to publish six print issues during the academic year, while also maintaining the paper’s digital output and reputation for quality student journalism.
You’ll coordinate a mix of print and digital content — from news and features to opinion, reviews and interviews — while supporting contributors, managing deadlines, and upholding high editorial standards.
Whether you’re an experienced student journalist or a strong writer and team leader with an interest in media, this is a unique opportunity to gain leadership and editorial experience in a real-world setting.
Responsibilities
You’ll be responsible for:

Editorial Direction: Shaping the newspaper’s content and values, and ensuring coverage is accurate, fair, and relevant

Content Production: Overseeing print and digital publishing schedules, editing work, and managing layout, design, and proofreading

Digital Strategy: Enhancing the paper’s online presence and engaging readers via social media and multimedia

Financial Sustainanility: Monitor The Glasgow Guardian’s annual budget and raise funds to support print and running costs.

Governance & Ethics: Ensuring all content meets legal and ethical standards while maintaining editorial independence
