There's a new requirement for club and society office bearers this academic year!
From 30 September 2026, anyone acting as the main contact when requesting SRC Clubs & Societies services must be an Active Office Bearer.
Here's what you need to know and how to make sure you're eligible to access our services.
What Services Does This Apply To?

You must be an Active Office Bearer when acting as the main contact for requests involving:
- Club Grant Funding and the Big Ideas Fund
- Room bookings
- Minibus hire
- Card machine hire
- Lending Library
- Other SRC Clubs & Societies services
How Do I Become an Active Office Bearer?

There are three steps you need to complete:
- Register as a volunteer on the SRC website.
- Add your club and office bearer position to your volunteering profile.
- Start logging volunteering hours for the work you do in your office bearer role.
Once you've completed these steps, you'll need to keep your volunteering record up to date.
How Do I Keep My Active Status?

To remain an Active Office Bearer, you must have logged volunteering hours for your office bearer position within the previous 30 days whenever you request an SRC service.
This means keeping a regular record of the time you spend carrying out your committee responsibilities throughout the year.
Why Are We Introducing This?

The Active Office Bearer requirement helps us make sure we're communicating with current committee members when clubs and societies request support.
It also encourages you to keep a record of the time and skills you develop through your committee role.
By logging your volunteering hours, you can build a volunteering skills record and work towards recognition through the Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) and the University of Glasgow Volunteering Awards.
Need Help Getting Started?

Don't worry if you're not sure how to register or log your hours!
We'll explain the Active Office Bearer requirements and how to use the volunteering system during SRC Society 101 training.
You can also get in touch with the Clubs & Societies team if you have any questions.
