Kerala Society - Onam 2026: 1pm - 3pm; Malabar Coast 33 Main Street Holytown Motherwell North Lanarkshire ML1 4TH; Onam 2026 comes to Scotland! Join the Kerala Society, University of Glasgow, for a traditional Onam Sadya, games and festive cheer at Malabar Coast, Holytown. Dress code: Kerala traditional. 29 August, 1 PM. £20 per person; all welcome!

Welcome Week Intro to Snooker/Pool Taster Session: 1pm - 3:30pm; Billiards Bar, GUU; Keen to try out some cue sports and learn how to play the game? We're running a taster session up at the Billiards Bar! All skill levels welcome, and beginners definitely encouraged! Good vibes only. :)

Mature Student Meet-Up: Caffeine & Common Ground: noon - 3pm; Room 201, McIntyre Building; Grab a cuppa' and find common interests with fellow mature students! Join us for a fun filled afternoon for students aged 21+!

International Quiz: Test Your Knowledge & Make New Friends: 4pm - 6pm; Kelvin Gallery, Main Building; Test your worldly knowledge and come along to our international quiz! Open to all students – especially if you're new to the UK! With many Scottish-themed prizes to be won.

West Coast Swing Dance Society | FREE TASTER CLASS: 6pm - 8pm; St Andrews Building Gymnasium – 11 Eldon St, Glasgow G3 6NH; Try West Coast Swing dancing at our FREE beginner taster class – no experience, partner or booking required! We'll take you right from the basics of finding the beat, to dancing patterns with different partners.

Pokemon League Society - Pokemon Champions Reg M-C Freshers Opening Tournament: 6:30pm - 8:30pm; JMS 429; Joint VGC (Champions) and TCG Card tournament to open the year. Everyone is invited whether you are in the society or not to participate or just to watch. We will all be having fun there so all are welcome! TCG Trading will also be open to all :)

K-Pop Society: Taster Dance Class: 11:30am - 1pm; Kelvin Gallery, Main Building; Jump into the new academic year with our taster dance session! Join us to learn a simple K-Pop choreography, meet new friends or tag along for a fun mini workout session!

International Film Society Welcome Social: 6pm - 10pm; The Gardener, Ashton Lane; Come meet fellow international film fans for a casual social at the Gardener on Ashton Lane, connected to the Grosvenor Picture Theatre! Drinks and food will be available for purchase. Meet in the Plant Room for a great night chatting about film!

Salsa and Latin Dance Society - Salsa and Bachata Taster Session: 6pm - 8pm; St Andrew's Gym; A taster in the basics of cross-body Salsa and Bachata moderna, followed by a short social to try out your new moves!

Jet Lag Society - Freshers Week Hide & Seek: Thursday Morning: 11am - 3pm; Outside the Wolfson Medical School; Join the GU Jet Lag Society in our first game of the year. Our game of Hide & Seek across the West End of Glasgow is a great way to explore the University campus and the surrounding area, while meeting new people. The event is free and open to all!

Aeronautics - Built in Glasgow, Taking Flight Worldwide (UGAeronautics Welcome Talk): 1:30pm - 2:30pm; 5 Professor's Square Room 330; UGAeronautics is the only UK student team to take aircraft across the globe to compete in prestigious engineering competitions. As we expand, we are looking for students of backgrounds to help our engineering and business teams excel!

Chess Society - Casual Chess Social: 3:30pm - 7:30pm; GUU Beer Bar; Come along and play some chess with us and get to know the committee, our regulars and have some fun. Whether you're a grandmaster or you've never played before, ALL abilities are welcome. We can't wait to see you there!

Explore the meditative mindset, learn about mindfulness, and experience guided meditation. No experience needed, just come along and discover what meditation has to offer.

This event aims to create space for an open conversation on these exact topics.

Enactus Glasgow: The Ultimate SDG Campus Scavenger Hunt: 4pm - 6pm; James McCune Smith Learning Hub - Tinderbox Cafe (Ground Floor); Want to change the world through business? Join Enactus Glasgow for a fun scavenger hunt across UofG's new £1B campus! Race against the clock, track down the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, and network with fellow change-makers.

Scottish Country Dance Taster and Ceilidh: 7:30pm - 10:30pm; GUU Dining Room; Scottish Country Dancing Taster Session and Ceilidh. Featuring live music and a dance demonstration!

Tue 22nd September

Wilderness and Extreme Medicine Society - Taster Session: 6:30pm - 8pm; JMS 743; Get stuck into an evening of controlled chaos exploring pre-hospital emergency medicine. Try CPR, trauma care, patient communication, and wrestle your friends onto spinal boards. Everyone's welcome—no medical experience needed.

Jazz Society - Jazz at The QMU: 7pm - 11pm; Jim’s Bar, QMU; Come along to GU Jazz Society’s premier jam session of the year! Come for the jazz, stay for the great atmosphere - arrive at 7pm to see the Student Led house band, followed by an open jam session for all abilities!
