Join the UoG Meditation Society for a relaxed and interactive introduction to the world of meditation. This beginner-friendly session will explore what meditation is, how it can support your mindset and wellbeing, and how you can incorporate it into your everyday life.

Session Guidelines

Doors open at 19:00, it is mandatory that you are seated for prompt start by 19:15. Arriving later than 19:15 will result in denied entry!

Wear comfortable clothes for sitting cross legged on the floor. Kindly bring an extra pair of socks to the session. If you would like, you can bring a cushion/mat to sit on for comfort (this is optional). There are some seats for those who are unable to sit on the ground.

There will be short videos made of the class for our Instagram advertisement The sessions follow a rough schedule of: discussing an aspect of meditation, followed by a guided meditation, followed by a QnA!

Onam 2026 Celebration — Kerala Society, University of Glasgow

Maveli is coming to Scotland, and you're invited to welcome him.

The Kerala Society at the University of Glasgow is delighted to present our Onam 2026 Celebration, held this year at Malabar Coast in Holytown. Onam is Kerala's biggest and best-loved festival — a harvest celebration marking the annual homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, and a day when families and friends come together over food, games and tradition regardless of background or belief.

What to expect

The heart of the day is the Onam Sadya — a magnificent vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf, featuring an array of traditional Kerala dishes including avial, sambar, thoran, olan, pachadi, rice, pappadam and the much-loved payasam to finish. It's a full sensory experience and, for many of us far from home, the closest thing to a Kerala Onam you'll find in Scotland.

Alongside the feast, we'll be running traditional Onam games and activities with plenty of chances to join in, win something, and meet others in the community. Expect music, laughter, and a room full of people in festival spirits.

Dress code

Kerala traditional dress is encouraged — kasavu saree, set mundu, mundu and shirt, or your own festive best. Come dressed for photographs; there will be many.

Jet Lag Society - Freshers Week Hide & Seek: Friday Afternoon (18/09/2026, 14:00)

Join the GU Jet Lag Society in our first game of the year. We'll introduce the rules from the official Jet Lag: The Home Game - Hide & Seek. Based off the popular children's game, this version takes it to a whole new level, as you hide in various locations across the West End of Glasgow. The rules are easy to pick up, and you'll be joined by experienced members of our society, who will guide you through the process of the game.

The game will be completely free to play and open to all students at the University of Glasgow (new and old). Now is the time to try playing one of our games, especially if you've ever been worried about concerns like the time commitment or cost of public transport. This is also a great way to meet new people at the University, while you explore its campus and the surrounding area.

This is event is free to all and no ticket is required. We will meet at the advertised time and location, however if you turn up late please contact us and we can fit you into a game (email us, message our instagram, or join our discord).

How do you play the game?

Each team will have an experienced member from the society to fully explain the rules to you.

But in brief, the game works with two teams. One team has a head start to find a street to hide on. Once released, the other teams (the seekers) can ask certain questions to narrow down the first team's hiding spot such as "Are you within 1km of us", "Is your nearest Library the same as ours?" or "Send a photo of the tallest building on your street".

Each time a question is asked, the hiding team can draw a card. The cards include time bonuses (e.g +5 minutes), action cards (e.g duplicate a card), and curse cards. Each curse card has a challenge which the hiders can make the seeking team complete (E.g the seekers can only turn right at any junction). Using these cards, the hiders can strategically slow down the seekers and increase their hiding time.

Eventually the hiders will be found, at which point the teams swap roles and play again. The team with the longest hiding time wins.

Logistics

Games will begin shortly after everyone assembles at 14:00 on Friday morning. Please meet outside the Wolfson Medical School. You will be in teams of 3 - 5 persons, and will play another team in a game. You are welcome to form teams/games around any friends you are with. Games last between 40 and 90 minutes. You are welcome to drop out afterwards and return if you wish.

We strive to make all our games accessible to anyone who wishes to play. Please contact us with details of your accessibility or capability requirements, and we can make sure that your needs are catered too (email us, message our instagram, or join our discord).

Hide & Seek entails a lot of standing around or walking for extended periods of time. The game is out in the environment, therefore we are unable to guarantee access to seating, toilets etc. Nonetheless adjustments can be made to games to make it easier for you such as mandated game breaks or enforcing a no-running rule.

FAQ

What is Jet Lag: The Game? Jet Lag: The Game is an online TV show that plays this style of game on a country (or even larger) scale! Think Hide & Seek across the UK, or Tag across Europe. If you've never heard of or watched the show, do not worry! The Jet Lag Society is open to everyone who wants to play our games.

Do I need to be a student of the University of Glasgow? The GU Jet Lag Society is always open to members from outside the University, and such members are very welcome to participate in our many games throughout the semester. However this particular event is geared towards students at the University of Glasgow, as it features during the University's Welcome Week.

Can I bring friends? Of course! You can choose to be in the same team, or opposing. There is also no pressure to turn up with anyone else. There will be teams to assign you in no matter what. Please note that large groups may not be able to fit in the same team and may have to be split up.

What should I bring? We strongly recommend you bring a bottle of water and some snack. Please also pack for Scottish weather. It may be lovely September weather, but we cannot guarantee that. Finally a battery pack is also recommended, although not a necessity.

Do I need to be there for the whole event? Not at all. Games last between 40 and 90 minutes, after which you're free to go or to play again.

How will teams communicate? All game communication happens through our Discord. You’re welcome to join it, but this is not required as the experienced member of your team will handle all the communication.

Our Connection Tables will make breaking the ice easy: choose a table that matches your interests such as Travel, Career Change, Family Life, Hobbies, or Study Goals, and chat with others who share your experiences. Every 10–15 minutes, you’ll rotate to a new table, meeting a variety of people and building your campus network.

How do you play the game?

Each team will have an experienced member from the society to fully explain the rules to you.

Eventually the hiders will be found, at which point the teams swap roles and play again. The team with the longest hiding time wins.

Logistics

Games will begin shortly after everyone assembles at 11:00 on Thursday morning. Please meet outside the Wolfson Medical School. You will be in teams of 3 - 5 persons, and will play another team in a game. You are welcome to form teams/games around any friends you are with. Games last between 40 and 90 minutes. You are welcome to drop out afterwards and return if you wish.

You’ll have the chance to meet our community volunteering partners, ask questions, and find out how you can get involved. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, explore beyond Glasgow’s West End, and make a positive impact in your local community. It’s also an excellent way to develop your skills, boost your CV, and enhance your personal and professional growth.
As an SRC volunteer, you can keep a personalised skills record showcasing your activities, hours, and achievements. You may also be eligible for formal recognition through our UofG Volunteering Awards, HEAR recognition, and more.

The Welcome Fair is one of the biggest and most exciting events of UofG Welcome Week – and it’s the perfect way to kickstart your student experience!

Across two days, the grounds of the iconic Main Building will be transformed into a bustling hub of activity. Starting at the Main Gate, you’ll explore the North Front and Memorial Gate, stroll through Professor’s Square, and make your way into the Cloisters and Hunter Halls. Along the way you’ll meet SRC-affiliated clubs and societies, local and national organisations, and student-friendly businesses.

Day 1 and Day 2 each feature a different line-up of stalls, so it’s worth attending both to discover everything on offer. Whether you’re looking to join a society, get involved in the student community, or just soak up the atmosphere, you’ll find something new each day.

The Houseplant Sale will take place from Saturday 12th to Wednesday 16th September outside the Main Building, inside the Memorial Gates on Central Campus. Open from 10am-7pm each day, cash, card & contactless payments are all accepted.

Join us for an unforgettable evening as we celebrate you, our incredible postgraduate students, before you head off on your next adventure or prepare for the next academic year. Whether you're finishing your studies or just need to recharge, this is your night to celebrate at a true Scottish-style ceilidh!

What to Expect

💃 Ceilidh Dancing – Try your hand (and feet!) at the joyful Scottish tradition of a ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) which features a live band and a whole lot of fun. No experience needed.
🍬 Scottish Snacks & Sweet Treats – From shortbread to Irn-Bru, tuck into classic Scottish snacks.
💌 “Haste Ye Back” Postcard Station – Write a welcome message to the next group of international students arriving in Glasgow.
📸 Scotland-Themed Photo Wall – Snap memories with friends!
🗺️ Map of Memories – Mark your journey on our map from where you’re from to track your journey to the University of Glasgow.

Dress Code

Come as you are or add a wee touch of tartan if you fancy! Feel free to even showcase traditional dress from where you call home, this is an evening to celebrate what YOU bring to the student community 🌍 ✨
