Overview

GUOS x GUSS: Hands-On Ophthalmology Night

Less listening, more doing. Join the Glasgow University Ophthalmology Society (GUOS) and the Glasgow University Surgical Society (GUSS) for an evening of practical ophthalmology skills, with real equipment and plenty of time to try things yourself.

When: Thursday 19 November, 5:50-8:30pm
Where: Gartnavel Hospital. We'll email the exact location once you've signed up.

What you'll get to try

  • VR surgical simulation (with VRIMS): step into a virtual theatre and have a go at ophthalmic surgery in VR.
  • Ophthalmic surgical simulation: practise fine surgical techniques on eye models.
  • Slit-lamp examination: learn how to set up and use the slit lamp, and what you're looking at.
  • Ophthalmoscopy: practise getting a clear view of the fundus, a skill many students find tricky.
  • Cranial nerve examination: work through a full cranial nerve exam with feedback.

Whether you're thinking about ophthalmology or surgery, or you just want more practical experience, this is a relaxed, hands-on way to build confidence before placements. No experience needed.

Pizza hopefully provided!

Tickets are limited, so book early through the GUOS or GUSS pages.

I wrote the descriptions generally. I couldn't find what the VR and surgical simulation stations involve, so check those lines match what you'll actually run, such as which tasks or models. If the VRIMS tag should come with a specific name, add it in the caption.

I can also turn this into a shorter Instagram caption with hashtags if you'd like.
