Black History Month is about celebrating, empowering, and standing together with our Black community at the University and beyond.
This year’s theme – Standing Firm in Power and Pride – recognised the strength, resilience, and creativity of Black people past and present. It was a chance to honour history while spotlighting the voices, experiences, and contributions shaping our future.
Throughout October, the SRC worked with students, clubs, societies, and University partners to host a programme of events and activities. From discussions and workshops to food, music, and film, we aimed to create spaces where our community could come together to connect, learn, and celebrate.
Black History Month isn’t just about looking back – it’s also about looking forward, challenging inequality, and amplifying Black voices on campus and in wider society. We encourage all students to take part, whether by joining events, sharing experiences, or simply learning more.
The month is now complete but our celebration of the Black community doesn't end in October! Check out our ongoing video series, Being Black in Scotland, below.
