What are your main resposibilities as a volunteer?

My main responsibilities as a volunteer is looking after the well-being and the academic interests of the child, making sure that they're picking up on the texts and making sure that they're enjoying it.

Why did you choose to volunteer for Scotland Reads?

I chose to volunteer and because I have a real passion for working with children and I love seeing them grow, especially within their reading and watching their literacy levels improve.

What have you enjoyed most during your time as a volunteer?

I've enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm and passion that the children have for learning and how much they love reading new stories and getting involved in different texts.

How much of an impact do you feel your volunteering has made?

I feel like my volunteering has made a great impact on the confidence and the reading skills of young children. As I get to implement that at a young age and watch them grow throughout the weeks and sometimes months, and really make a difference towards their learning.

What would you tell a student who is thinking about volunteering?

Definitely get involved. This is a great project, especially after COVID we have some children struggling with their reading and it's great to see the difference you make in the children.

If you could sum up your volunteering experience in one word, what would it be?

I would definitely say heart warming. I love caring for them and watching them grow throughout the weeks and months on the project.

*Also just want to say a massive thanks to all the students and teachers at Garnetbank Primary! Can’t wait to see you all after summer.
