Two Things Nobody Grades You On

Dr Faisal Tariq, Senior Lecturer, James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, delivered an insightful talk at the GUBSS Summer Social Event-2026 on career development, networking, and adapting to the AI era. His key message was simple: be visible, build meaningful networks, and stay curious throughout your career. He highlighted the importance of understanding different academic cultures, planning career options early, and building professional connections beyond one’s immediate circle. He also discussed how AI is making routine tasks easier, while skills such as critical thinking, subject expertise, good judgement, and trust are becoming more valuable.
