Jannat Afzal

Hi! My name is Jannat Afzal (she/her), and I am running for School Representative!

There is great potential to improve the student experience within the School of Psychology and Neuroscience. My goal is to strengthen communication between students and staff, ensuring your voices are represented and acted upon. I will advocate for more frequent feedback sessions and better transparency regarding course updates.

As a 2nd year, I want to increase academic support through study workshops and peer mentoring to boost student confidence. Mental health is another priority, and I aim to collaborate with university services to create tailored mental health resources, such as dedicated study spaces for our school.

I want to expand research opportunities for all year groups, not just final years, to provide practical experience earlier on. I will work to address the lack of Neuroscience material before third year, while inviting guest speakers from both Neuroscience and Psychology to deepen our understanding of real-world applications.

I want to be an approachable and reliable point of contact, working closely with Class Reps and College Convenors to ensure voices are heard. Together, we can build a supportive and engaging learning environment where students thrive.

Thank you for your support!

Somaria Maharaj

As your student representative, I am here to represent your interests and advocate for a stronger, more supportive community. Together, we can create multicultural, safe, and creative environments that fosters our academic, personal and social growth.

My priorities will be:

  • Strengthening our community: Promoting an open-minded and welcoming comittee by taking initiatives to foster a sense of belonging and connection among students.
  • Improving communication: Giving a voice to your concerns and feedback and being transparent about information regarding academic matters, events, and resources.
  • Promoting student well-being: Working to create a positive, inclusive and multi-cultural learning environment that prioritizes mental health and well-being. Actively listening and providing you with the support that you want.
  • Enhancing academic support: Advocating for increased resources and support services, such as tutoring, counseling, study buddies and research opportunities.

By working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff, we can create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and supported. Together, we will ensure that the School of Psychology and Neuroscience provides a rewarding and supportive experience that helps students succeed both academically and personally.

Fatemah Patel

Hi there! My name is Fatemah and I would love to be your School of Psychology and Neuroscience Rep this year.

Having had experience of participating as a Class Rep last year, I have developed the necessary skills to communicate effectively with both students and staff, encouraging accessible feedback channels. I am also well-versed in the structure and purpose of the SRC, as I have been both a helper and team leader during our busy Welcome Week for the past two years, which places me in an ideal position to transition into a council role.

If elected, I will:

  • Connect the various cohorts within our school to enhance unity and enable students of different levels to easily interact
  • Centralise feedback from Class Reps to reflect change across the board and ensure the voices of all members of our school are heard and acted upon, regardless of degree path or level.
  • Improve visibility and knowledge of events within the school and related societies, as well as useful services within the university

In the final year of my degree, I aim to work with you all and take a step further to improve the student experience for everyone in our school.
