Anaiya Fiaz

I wish to run for representative of the school of Psychology and Neuroscience to build better connections between the students and staff and to create a wider community.

I would like to work with the psychology society to ensure all socials and events are better promoted, because I believe due to the large class sizes and the lack of smaller seminar groups the school lacks a sense of community. Which I believe would greatly benefit the students as they would gain connections with peers on the same courses.

I would also like to work on workshops or guest speakers, to bridge the gap between learning psychology or neuroscience theory in classes and real-world applications. For example, talks from practicing clinical psychologists advising on the best routes to take and highlighting all the potential roles for someone with a psychology or neuroscience degree.

Finally, I would revise student and advisor relationships. As specifically with psychology as you can take a Ma or a BSC undergraduate degree some students are left with art advisors and some with science advisors. Which creates disconnect and longer channels to go through when querying problems or looking for help about specific issues regarding courses.

Valentina Soares

My name is Valentina Soares and I am a third year Neuroscience student. Going into my final year, I am eager to help out the school in any way I can and make sure that the student’s voices are heard and communicated properly. This past year I have been a fresher’s helper with the SRC and a challenges and events officer for the raising and giving society, which helped me develop a set of skills I think will be transferable to a representative role along with better knowledge on how the SRC works. I have been very impressed with the campaigns launched this year by the SRC and that inspired me to run.

If elected I will:

1.     Ensure the students at both schools of Psychology and Neuroscience are integrated by helping societies and class reps to communicate to each other. Ensure that the school of neuroscience students have adapted to the change in schools and understand what it means.

2.     Make sure students coming into the school feel heard and integrated to the community. Make myself available to organise events for people to meet and discuss classwork share tips, and feel like their concerns and issues are being resolved
