Juel Choppy-Madeleine

Hey everyone! Juel Choppy-Madeleine, a 1st year medical student. I am running for representative for the school of Medicine Dentistry & Nursing after being inspired during my time as a first-year class rep for medicine.

Throughout my first year, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know and represent my cohort and I would be extremely grateful to do the same for the entire school of Medicine Dentistry & Nursing. Due to many factors such as the cost-of-living crisis, aftermath of the covid pandemic & the UCU strikes, university life has been challenging for all of us which is why I aim to make your academic life as pleasant as possible.

If elected, I will actively seek out and listen to student feedback and advocate for the needs of my peers, ensuring that our school is a place where everyone feels safe and respected. I am dedicated to keeping our school a place of learning and growth, where innovation and creativity are encouraged and celebrated. Additionally, I would push for continued accessibility in lectures such proposing for a standardised format for PowerPoints.

It is my hope that together, our school can continue to grow and foster a diverse and supportive community.

Carys Nield

Hi! I’m Carys (she/her).

After having a fantastic week as an SRC Freshers’ Helper last September, I saw the unequalled value that the SRC has in our university and am therefore running for the position of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing Representative.

This past year, I have excelled as a class representative for 2nd-year dentistry and completed an intercalated degree in women’s and children’s health. My experience in cross-school disciplines has made me passionate about advocating for students. For example, I successfully campaigned last November for prayer breaks for religious students during all-day classes.

As a dental student, I understand how expensive travelling is for our degrees. That’s why if elected, I will help to create a fund for students to be reimbursed for travel across medicine, dentistry and nursing.

We all learn differently, but due to Covid, students in our school have had their degrees disordered. Therefore, I am also campaigning to get students access to all pre-recorded lectures and seek to increase the number of tutorials in person.

Thank you for reading my manifesto and I would love to discuss it with you more. Drop me an email at: 2518503N@student.gla.ac.uk
