Alex Symington
Hi everyone, I’m Alex, a postgraduate student studying Translation, and I’m running for Postgraduate Arts Convenor. I’m passionate about making change for a fairer and more open student experience, and through this, I was a class rep twice during my undergrad and was a fresher's helper with the SRC in my fifth year.
As the Postgraduate Arts Convener, I’d initiate meetings with both heads of Postgrad schools and class reps, to listen to your feedback and make changes based upon feedback to ease any worries, doubts, and issues at council level, to ensure that the changes are made and stuck to over the course of the year. As part of this, every postgraduate student in the College of Arts would receive a monthly email newsletter keeping them updated on any changes being made following feedback given in these meetings.
Also, in the face of the housing crisis, I would run events throughout the year for every postgraduate student in the College of Arts. The events would range from ceilidhs in GUU through to speed mating in the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club, to make every postgrad in the College to feel part of the University of Glasgow community, whatever their living situation.
