Seben Akman

Hello! I’m Seben, and I am a Computing Science student eager to serve as your next Charities Officer. I am deeply passionate about charitable initiatives and have actively contributed to various organizations, including BrightHer, Turner’s Syndrome Support Society (TSSS), and Glasgow Marrow.

My experiences in leadership and fundraising roles have equipped me with the necessary skills to excel in this position:

  • Media and Marketing Lead at BrightHer – I oversee marketing and communication strategies while raising awareness about GBV and global women's issues; enhancing my strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Treasurer at TSSS – I manage budgets, secure funding, and foster interclub relations to increase our society’s visibility on campus, strengthening my financial acumen and networking abilities.
  • Fundraising Coordinator for Glasgow Marrow – I research and identify new fundraising opportunities, expanding my expertise in event planning and donor engagement.

If elected, I will:

Collaborate with societies to broaden networks and create larger fundraising opportunities, such as a charities ceilidh.
Enhance the visibility of RAG Society and RAG Week through community engagement and public relations efforts.
Strengthen partnerships between RAG Society, sports societies, and feminist organizations to support feminist causes.
Promote academic fundraising workshops to equip students with the skills to launch successful charitable initiatives.

Molly Corbett (she/her)

I’m Molly (she/her), I am a third-year law student campaigning to become your Charities Officer all the way from Singapore (on my year abroad).

I believe my experiences as General Representative on the SRC as well as RAG Week Officer on RAG make me well-suited to the role of Charities Officer.

If elected I would….

  1. Bring back RAG (Glasgow University’s Raising and Giving Society)
  • Bring RAG back to its former glory  by re-strengthening its links with the SRC
  • Increase the presence of RAG at Welcome Week – by having a Helper’s Team focus on fundraising objectives
  • Expand RAG week by encouraging cross-campus involvement and hosting an inter-faculty fundraising competition
  1. Champion a broader notion of “raising and giving”

Place a focus on other means of “giving” alongside traditional monetary donations in light of the cost-of-living crisis. Run other initiatives such as:

  • Recycle and Give - Host monthly drives to collect donations for example “books and bras” drives.
  • Reach and Give – Set up an annual awareness push - selecting a charity each year and help their message reach university students. Ie. Partnering with Bowel Cancer UK to help promote early detection on campus
