1. Extensions

As many students use extensions for coursework, I aim to work with class representatives to identify possible reasons that this may be the case, ensuring adequate access to resources and assignment guidance so receiving later feedback does not have a knock-on effect on other course results. I will also advocate for receiving regular feedback during the introduction of the extenuating circumstances.

2. Employability

I will advocate for more career guidance and support within the school. My current role as a Peer Career Supporter provides me with insight into what students look for when seeking employability advice. I can use this experience to represent the needs of students and to push for opportunities tailored to the Critical Studies students and the pathways available after graduation.

3. Cohesion Between Subjects

Due to the opportunities to take modules between subjects, I would like to encourage more support for students considering these options to improve their confidence and broaden their education scope, encouraging an interdisciplinary experience during their time at university. I want the university to provide support such as workshops as well as referencing and course guidance to be provided upon request prior to the beginning of teaching.

Cliodhna Shields

Hi, my name is Cliodhna Shields, and I am a 3rd year English Literature and Philosophy student.

I have volunteered as a Welcome Helper this year with the SRC, and I was impressed by the management of the council, and I would love to be a part of something that supports, both socially and academically, the students in the university. I also acted as a class representative every year since joining the university and I understand the value in voicing our opinions as students as it helps foster a better learning environment for us and for future classes.

If I was chosen to be the school representative for Critical Studies I would encourage more communication between students and staff about content and course guidelines, in order to ensure students are confident in the foundations of their courses and able to speak up with questions for the staff when they need content revised or clarified. I would also like to implement more social events and provide opportunities for students of all levels of study to meet to discuss and study their respective subjects.

I would love the opportunity to work alongside the SRC and to help provide this valuable support.
