Bhumika Arora

Hi, my name is Bhumika, I’m running as a student representative for Maths and Stats because I’m enthusiastic about being an advocate for change in the institution. Having done similar roles in the past such as student council, equalities team representative and outreach programmes, I have learned the importance of people who speak for the student body. I want Mathematics to be a safe space for our class to voice their concerns about anything they consider to be requiring improvement. There’s such a variety of scenarios that could crop up that are subjective to each and every one of you. I would personally like to target mental health, inclusivity and partake in academics related conversations with lecturers. I know I am a proactive change maker and will stay organised when attending SSLC meetings allowing us to streamline our resolutions.

Amelia Shuttleworth

Hi, my name is Amelia Shuttleworth, I am a 3rd year Statistics student. The primary reason I’m running to be your School of Mathematics and Statistics Representative is because I enjoy advocating for and helping other students.

I have been a class representative 3 times before; twice for archaeology and once for statistics. In that role I collected feedback from classmates and worked with staff to implement genuine change for students and I am not afraid of bringing criticism to the department when necessary.

Another reason I am running is so I can advocate for students in extraordinary situations. I want everyone to have equal opportunities to get the best out of university and I don’t want people to lose those opportunities because of circumstances outside of their control. It can be stressful and it's always made easier with support.

Finally, as every representative before me has said, I wish to improve communications between students and staff as best I can, because it can always be improved upon.

Thank you and I hope you will vote for me to be your 2025/26 representative.

Stephanie Weatherston

Hello everyone! My name is Stephanie Shields, I am a 3rd year BSc Mathematics student, and I would love to be your student representative for the school of Mathematics and Statistics!

I have been class rep for 2 years in a row (1st and 2nd year), therefore I have a lot of experience when it comes to speaking on behalf of all students. I am a great listener, and will take everyone's opinion into consideration, making sure they are heard, no matter how good or bad the opinion is. Therefore, if chosen, I will attend all meetings, work to make sure that change is implemented, strengthen communication between students and staff, and feedback is being listened to too. Mathematics and Statistics aren’t easy subjects, so when issues arise within the different levels, I want to make sure everyone is satisfied with their courses and will listen to everyone in all levels.

I am also secretary of MacSoc, the Mathematics and Statistics society, meaning that by being your school rep, I will have direct contact with staff, and will be able to connect the society with the staff easier, ensuring that students have lots of opportunities to participate in talks and events!
