Rana Brewer

The environment I seek to create within the Postgraduate Convenor for Arts and Humanities role is one of support, of fostering growth, and of ensuring each and every voice is heard. There are three overarching means in which these can be achieved.

Transparent Communication

  • Running forums/talking groups in person and/or online and ensuring that every part of the dialogue (questions and answers) is accessible in a timely manner.
  • In line with accessibility, any discussion groups held online would be recorded and placed on an online space with transcript to ensure everyone can be involved.
  • Equally running online questionnaires and surveys to allow anyone not able to attend groups to be heard.

Access to Opportunities

  • Engaging with the University as well as specific arts and humanities teams to ensure that all academic opportunities (internships, work placements, experiences etc) specific to postgraduates are clear to find for all students and that ample support is provided for the application process.

Support

  • Ensuring that every postgraduate student, full time and part time, knows where to turn for support.
  • Advocating for clearly signposted support – be that mental health, disability, financial etc. and working alongside the SRC and wellbeing teams to achieve this.

Madelaine Gray

Hi everyone! I’m Madelaine, a student on the MSc Gender History programme. I’ve spent the last four years working in student representation, and last year I served as VP Education at Royal Holloway. I am excited for the opportunity to bring these skills to Glasgow, and make the student experience the best it can be.

I will work for your interests, be your biggest advocate, and effectively represent you. Here are a few key points that I plan to address as soon as possible:

  1. Making students’ voices heard: Regardless of programme size, every student should be listened to and represented effectively. I will make sure that all feedback is worked on.
  2. Effective communication: I will work hard to ensure that students can rely on staff to openly communicate about how to reach them – from public office hours to email queries.
  3. Accessibility on campus: Every student should be able to get to their classes, and no one should feel excluded from activities.
  4. Transition support: PG Students come to Glasgow from diverse educational backgrounds. Every programme should have tailored induction events to help students feel at home at this university.

Kelly Yu

Hi, I’m Kelly (she/her), an MLitt student in English Literature, and I’m running to be your PG College Convenor in Arts and Humanities to represent the voices and thoughts of postgraduate students!

I am passionate about improving the Glasgow student experience - discovered through participating in various clubs and societies, being a class representative, as well as volunteering as an SRC Welcome Helper this year!

If elected, I will:

  • Advocate for more consistency across disciplines in opportunities to develop academic skills - whether that be through additional research training, more marketing of academic events or increasing internship opportunities.
  • Ensure frequent and clear correspondence between schools and students to ensure a smoother transition to postgraduate study, from additional support to selecting courses to integrating into Glasgow student life.
  • Be an open channel for student feedback on how to improve your postgraduate degree experience, working with the college and schools to implement any improvements, maintaining transparency by updating students on any changes made as a result of student representation.

Vote for Kelly as your Postgraduate College Convenor in Arts and Humanities, thank you!
