At the SRC, we are committed to supporting student refugees and raising awareness of the challenges they face.

Through our Volunteering service, we have partnered with local refugee support charities such as Scottish Refugee Council, Inclusive Homework Club, and Amina – The Muslim Women’s Resource Centre for several years. Many students also engage with Student Action for Refugees (STAR) and other student-led groups working to support refugees on campus.

As a University of Sanctuary, the University of Glasgow strives to be a welcoming and supportive place for refugees. While Refugee Week is usually held in June, we are bringing it forward to 17–21 March so that more students can take part.

What’s happening during Student Refugee Week?

We have worked closely with student groups and community partners to create a week of engaging and meaningful activities, where you can:

  • Learn about the experiences of student refugees and the support available on campus and beyond.
  • Take part in events that celebrate culture, resilience, and community.
  • Reflect on what it means to leave home and bring a piece of it with you.
