Earth Day is an opportunity to reflect on how our everyday choices impact the environment and to highlight the ways students can get involved in building a more sustainable future.

Through our Volunteering Service, we work with a range of local organisations and community groups that focus on sustainability, conservation, and protecting the natural environment. These opportunities allow students to make a positive impact while gaining valuable experience and connecting with their local community.

Many students also engage with environmental societies, including groups focused on biodiversity, conservation, climate awareness, and sustainable living.

Across the University of Glasgow community, students and staff continue to explore ways to reduce environmental impact and support greener practices on campus and beyond. Through volunteering, campaigns, and collaborative projects, students are playing an important role in shaping a more sustainable university community.

Earth Day provides an opportunity to celebrate these efforts while encouraging more students to get involved in protecting our planet.

When is Earth Day?

Earth Day is celebrated globally on 22 April 2026, bringing together millions of people to support environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.

To mark the occasion, the SRC is working with student groups across campus to organise activities that encourage students to learn, take action, and connect with nature.

Get Involved

Want to support environmental action beyond Earth Day? You can:

  • Volunteer with local organisations working on conservation and sustainability projects.
  • Join one of the University’s environmental or sustainability-focused student societies.
  • Take part in future volunteering events organised through the SRC.
  • Make small changes in your everyday life that contribute to a more sustainable campus community.

Earth Day is just one moment in the year, but collective action throughout the year can make a meaningful difference.
