Macmillan Society

We were set up in December 2013 and have raised over £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, through bucket collections, raffles, socials and supporting existing Macmillan events!
Glasgow Uni Macmillan Society was set up with the hope that students would like to get involved with raising awareness, funds and support for Macmillan Cancer Support in their effort. Cancer affects 1 in 2 people now, so whilst we fundraise and raise awareness, we are also here for anyone personally affected who might need some help or support. 

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic we have adapted our fundraising efforts and managed to raise nearly £10,000! Now university is back, we are looking forward to resuming many of our events in person that we love so much! Throughout the year we have a variety of social, fundraising and awareness evenings; some of our most well-known are our Ceilidh for Cancer with the wonderful Glasgow Marrow (go join them as well if you haven't already), our Christmas Beer Bar Quiz and spending all day facepainting at GUU St Paddy's Day! So look out for us around campus shaking our buckets and normally leaving a trail of glitter behind us! 

As well as all these amazing fundraising activities, we also offer oportunities to get involved in raising awareness of cancer and it's impact, not only on patients' health but their families and financial circumstances. We have close contact with Macmillan Scotland, and have had members train and volunteer within Glasgow Libraries and be an ear for individuals at times of need through the counselling service offered. The society also offers opportunities for students to gain experience in marketing, publicity and event planning, with many opportunities for students to get involved throughout the year without any long-term commitment. We know university can be challenging so we are always happy for people to join us at as many events as possible.
