UofG's resident HEMA and swordfighting society
We practice HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) where we mix a love for history with the fun of swordfighting. But it’s more than just fighting; you’ll meet lifelong friends who have the same passions and interests as you.
Join our socials (discord server, instagram) to see when you can drop into a session, no experience required!
Our free membership allows you to attend our classes and socials. If you're curious about HEMA, we recommend choosing this tier first, going to a few sessions, and upgrading later if you're interested. Our sparring membership also allows you to take part in our sparring and tournaments. This membership includes Academy of Historical Arts membership, which provides martial arts insurance and discounts on the AHA website and AHA events. Each membership tier has two versions: Standard for UofG students, and Associate for everyone else. This only affects society election eligibility - our events are open to students and non-students alike.
In short, no experience is required. At the beginning of each semester, our lessons start from the very basics of swordfighting.
Swords and safety equipment are provided. Just wear comfortable clothes for moving around, and bring a water bottle. If you have your own HEMA kit, feel free to bring it along as well.
