Hey! Hi! Welcome! We are the ★NEW★ University of Glasgow Banned Book Society (BBS)!
Our society hopes to create a welcoming space for all students at the university of Glasgow for fun socials, discussion - and to prime you for your next debate with your uncle at Christmas!
Our Beliefs -
We believe that the freedom of the press is a human right - one that is consistently threatened by the rise of global authoritarianism. However, we contend it is equally important that individuals are informed in regards to this, without misinformation and bias. It is through community, literary rebellion, and open discussion that we can foster an informed society and prevent alienation.
Our Events -
Aside from our monthly book club meetings (book of the month announced via our Instagram @uofgbannedbooksoc), BBS hosts a range of causal events - including sober socials - to be announced! Everyone is always welcome, reading is optional, and we encourage suggestions (contact us at bannedbooksoc@outlook.com).
Our Ambitions -
We aim to create a collaborative monthly newsletter and accept article submissions via our email (as stated above). Mostly, we hope that this society will always evolve to suit its members in a rapidly changing world and be a place in which all feel welcome!
