Hello all, we are the Glasgow University branch of Solidaritee!
Solidaritee is one of the largest student and young-people-led charities in Britain, focused on raising money for legal aid for refugees in Greece. We work together with people of all ages and backgrounds to create an international community which supports and upholds the rights of all those forced to flee their homes globally, and exist to make real-world, long-term change that combats harmful misinformation and improves the support available to refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants in vulnerable situations.
Founded in Cambridge in 2017, and officially registered as a charity in 2019, we have raised over £500,000 in grants for NGOs and charities working in the Mediterranean to improve the well-being of asylum seekers. We mainly raise money through the sale of our own wonderful t-shirts, designed by refugees, hence, solidariTEE!
We also seek to educate the student body and wider public on the experiences of asylum seekers through our campaigns and events. Our events have something for everyone, ranging from informal pub quizzes, to t-shirt sales and fundraisers, to panel discussions with academics and those with lived experience of seeking asylum.
Whether you're an expert in the topic of refugees and asylum seekers or have no prior knowledge at all, whether you have extensive or no prior volunteering experience, all are welcome!
