About

GUMPS aims to educate medics on the importance of socioeconomic determinants and their effects on healthcare, through public health promotion by medics and healthcare professionals.

63.1% of medical students in Scotland are from the top 3 least deprived deciles and 29.6% have been privately educated (2009-2012)

This is vastly disproportionate to the general population (3% privately educated and Of the five most deprived data zones in the SIMD 2016, four are in Glasgow City) can cause divides in patient rapport and treatment efficacy. GUMPS aims to bridge this gap and provide better education about the real socio-economic effects on the healthcare of the general population.
