Glasgow University SRC, Strathclyde Students’ Union, and GCU Students’ Association stand together in condemning the anti-migrant demonstration planned for the City Centre and Glasgow Green on Saturday 25th July at 12pm.
Anti-migrant rhetoric, racism, and intimidation have no place in our city or university communities. We recognise that news coverage and discussion around these events may be upsetting, particularly for students from migrant, refugee, international, ethnic minority, and faith communities.
We stand in solidarity with anyone who feels threatened or unwelcome because of this demonstration. You are a valued part of our community and support is available if you need it.
An anti-racist counter-protest is also expected in the area at 11am. There may be disruption, road closures, or a significant police presence around the City Centre, Glasgow Green and surrounding area. If possible, you may wish to allow extra travel time or avoid certain areas. Check public transport updates before travelling, and be aware of your surroundings during the day.
If you feel unsafe, move away from the area and seek assistance. In an emergency, call 999. For non-emergency police assistance, call 101.

We reject attempts to divide our communities or make any student feel unsafe or unwelcome. Our organisations stand together against racism, anti-migrant hatred and intimidation, and alongside all students affected. We will continue to campaign for safer campuses in a safer city where prejudice of any kind is rejected entirely.

University of Glasgow Support
- Download the SafeZone app to contact the University’s Campus Security team. The app is monitored 24 hours a day and can be used to request assistance or alert Security in an emergency.
- The SRC Advice Centre provides free and confidential advice to University of Glasgow students. It is also a third-party reporting centre for hate crime and can support you if you wish to make a report to Police Scotland.
- You can use the University’s harassment, bullying and violence reporting tool to report harassment or discrimination, including racial harassment. Reports can be made about something that happened to you or another University of Glasgow student, and can be submitted with your contact details or anonymously.
- The University’s Counselling and Wellbeing Service provides mental health and wellbeing support. Students who need to speak to someone immediately can also call the University’s 24-hour Counselling and Advice Line on 0800 028 3766.
- The University’s Support Finder can help you identify the most appropriate support service for your circumstances.
- The University Chaplaincy offers pastoral care and support to students of all faiths and beliefs, including those with no religious belief.
