Farewell from the 2025-26 Executive

Our outgoing Executive reflect on their past year as the new team get ready to take office on July 1st.

It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to have served you, the students of the University of Glasgow, as SRC President.

As the year comes to an end, I want to provide some reflections on what has been an equally challenging and rewarding term.

When I first began, I knew that the University was about to begin a period of intense change. It was vital that our interests were at the centre of this. I have advocated on behalf of students for increased prominence to be given to the student experience in the new University Strategy 2026–36, for inconsistent practices to be paused and reviewed, for the recommendations of the Targeted Peer Review to be implemented in full and to the benefit of students, and much more.

The new Extenuating Circumstances procedure, for example, has come into force. It addresses several gaps in wellbeing policies that Good Cause did not, makes it easier for students to get extensions on assessments, and to be redirected to services if and when they are needed. As further reforms and policies are introduced, the SRC will continue to be the University's critical friend and scrutinise where they do not improve your experience at UofG.

Of course, all the progress that has been made this year is testament to the power of our student community to band together for what we believe in and to celebrate our diverse student community. We worked with student societies to send an open letter to the Principal to lobby for improved disabled access on the estate; you celebrated our biggest Welcome Week ever with us; and your votes on the Divestment Referendum last session helped us to continue to make the case for truly ethical investment. We could not have done it without you.

On behalf of the outgoing Sabbatical Officer team, we would like to say a big 'thank you' to the SRC permanent staff who work tirelessly to ensure every student on this campus has a great experience, and whose guidance we have greatly relied on.

It has been an honour to represent you, especially at such a pivotal point in the history of the University.

We wish nothing but the best of luck to Molly, Ben, Hannah and Natasha when they take office on the 1st of July.

Yours,
Duncan Calvert

SRC President 2025-26
