Hello all We are delighted to announce our Introduction to Amnesty & EGM session will be taking place on Monday 26th September 16:30-18:00 in the GUU Base Room.
From 16:30-17:00 we will be hosting a friendly and informal introductory session to the work of the largest human rights organisation globally, Amnesty International, and our student society! Please come along to meet our members, hear what campaigns and events we have planned for this year, and learn how you can get more involved in the movement. :D
This is a session for members both old and new, and we are always eager to hear everybody's ideas so please feel free to ask questions and contribute your ideas in discussion at the end of the presentation if you have any!
This session will be followed by an EGM, which you are welcome to leave or stay for. Our EGM is for electing members to fill vacant positions in our committee.
We are electing the following roles:
- Campaigns Coordinator (x1 - one position has already been filled!)
- Fundraising Officer (x2)
- Press & Publicity Officer (x2)
- Social Convenor
- 1st Year Representative
If you have any questions about what any of the responsibilities of these roles, please see our EGM annoucement post on Instagram or email us at mail@guamnesty.org.uk.
Absolutely no experience is necessary for any of these roles - just enthusiasm for human rights activism! We encourage all members both old and new to apply. If you are elected, you will be supported by a wider committee and receive a full handover for your new role.
Please be aware that in order to run for committee or vote at our EGM you must be a current UofG student as well as a standard member of our society (membership is free and via the SRC!). You must also write a short speech (maximum 2 minutes) about why you are interested in the role and why you are a good fit for the role. If you cannot attend in person, or you just hate public speaking, then please email us your speech to mail@guamnesty.org.uk. ahead of the EGM and we can read it out for you!
If you are not a UofG student, you are still more than welcome to attend our events as an associate member (which is likewise free and via the SRC), however, unfortunately, you cannot stand or vote at our EGM.
If you are struggling with membership, or have any questions, suggestions, or comments, then please email us as we are always open to and happy hear ideas and/or to support our members in any way that we can. :D
