Overview

Our upcoming AGM is on Tuesday 28th April 16:00-17:30pm in the GUU Reading Room! All roles on our committee are up for reelection so we are electing the following roles: Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Welfare Officer, Campaigns Coordinator (x2), Press and Publicity Officer (x2), Fundraising Officer (x2), Social Convenor and Ordinary Board Members. All role descriptions are on our Instagram @guamnesty.

As the majority of our committee are graduating this year, we are a bit worried about the longevity of the society. We really want to reaffiliate next year as we have a number of very important upcoming campaigns, such a Defend Dissent, which aims to defend the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression on UK university campuses, and so we want our activism to keep going strong! We need to elect a four members as a named Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, and Welfare Officer at our AGM to reaffiliate with the SRC for 26/27. All other roles can be filled (and usually are!) at our EGM, following freshers week, at the start of the next academic year.

Absolutely no experience is required to run and all new committee members will be given full handovers and support from the Student Organisers at AIUK. All you need is a care for and commitment to human rights! As the current Chairperson, I will also be around next year in an advisory capacity to support the new committee in any way that I can!

In order to run, you must be a member of the society (it's totally free!) and a registered GU student next year. To run for a role we ask you to write a short speech that is a maximum of three minutes for an executive position (Chairperson, Treasurer, or Secretary) or a maximum of two minutes for a non-executive position. If you cannot attend the AGM, or you hate public speaking, please just email us your speech at mail@guamnesty.org.uk and we can read it our for you!

Please email at mail@guamnesty.org.uk or contact us on Instagram if you are interested and have any questions about any of the roles.
