Ever wondered what pre-hospital emergency medicine is all about? Come along to our free taster session and find out!
GWEMS (Glasgow Wilderness & Extreme Medicine Society) is a student-led society that teaches the practical side of emergency medicine through hands-on simulation, realistic scenarios, and interactive teaching. For our taster session, we'll be bringing out some of our favourite bits of kit and giving you the chance to have a go at CPR, trauma care, patient communication, spinal board extrications, and more in an evening of controlled chaos.
The session is led by senior students, with some of our clinician alumni joining us to share their experiences and answer any questions you might have. One of the best things about GWEMS is the community—we're a friendly bunch, and it's a great opportunity to get to know students in the years above who are always happy to chat about studying medicine, placements, electives, or anything else. And if you're not a medic, don't let that put you off! Everyone is welcome, and we'd love for you to come along and learn something new.
If you enjoy the taster, you're welcome to come back for a couple of our regular weekly teaching sessions before deciding whether you'd like to join the society. Membership is just £10 for the whole year.
After the session we'll be heading to the pub, and everyone's invited—even if you can't make the teaching itself. Come say hello, meet the committee, and find out what we're all about.
