Your research degree is a major part of your time at university, but it doesn’t have to be the only part. Many postgraduate researchers find that getting involved beyond their research helps them build community, develop transferable skills, and maintain a healthy balance during their research degree.
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) offers a range of opportunities for postgraduate researchers to connect with the wider university community, gain valuable experience, and complement their research journey.
In this introduction session, you’ll find out about:
- Volunteering – Learn how SRC volunteering opportunities allow PGRs to give back, develop leadership and organisational skills, and gain experience that strengthens both academic and non-academic career paths.
- Clubs & Societies – Discover how joining or supporting a club or society can help you connect with students across disciplines, pursue interests outside your research, and build a supportive community during your research degree.
- Recognition & Impact – Find out how your contributions can be recognised through initiatives such as the UofG Volunteering Awards and HEAR recognition, and how you can record and showcase your volunteering experience.
Getting involved with the SRC through volunteering, clubs, and societies isn’t just a break from research, it’s a chance to broaden your network, build transferable skills, and make the most of your postgraduate experience.
