"Minding You and Your Business: Disability and Cognitive Science" is a one-day interdisciplinary conference exploring how cognitive science intersects with disability, inclusion, and community, and how these insights connect with fields such as engineering, technology and education. The event brings together students and academics to discuss both the contributions and challenges cognitive science presents in understanding disability.
The programme includes student presentations, keynotes, and a panel on disabled students’ experiences, with featured keynotes by:
Professor Annalu Waller (AAC Group from the University of Dundee), whose work on Stories at the Dentists and How Was School Today…? provides insights into assistive communication technologies, inclusive design, and empowering people with complex communication needs.
Dr David Simmons (School of Psychology and Neuroscience, UofG), who will share expertise on sensory issues for neurodivergent students in higher education.
Attendees will engage with the experiences of disabled students and researchers, explore the intersection of cognitive science and engineering, and reflect on ways to make research and research environments more inclusive and accessible.
The event will take place in the Williams Room, University of Glasgow, with step-free access, live captioning and hybrid participation to ensure full accessibility.
