GWEMS Incredibly popular annual intro weekend.
Join us for the first residential event of the year. All members are
welcome!
We will go stay in the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel at the foot of Ben Nevis.
The weekend will be spent learning or developing all the basic wilderness
medicine skills. A to E skills, Catastrophic haemorrhage, extrication skills
and workshops from experts in their fields.
Previous guests have included international search and rescue team
members, Pre-hospital physicians, Arrochar Mountain Rescue team and
white water rescue team members.
Saturday night runs our paprticipant favourite nightime search and rescue
simulation. Where you'll put your newfound skills to use in a simulated
disaster finding and treating our mock casualties in the dark of the
Scottish Highlands. An experience unlike anything else you'll get to do at
univeristy.
The Sunday between packing up and clearing out we run mas casualty
simulation. You'll take it in turns to get your acting boots on and play
casualties in full moulage and makeup. Or under the expert leadership of
a returning participant respond to a major incident scenario triaging,
treating and evacuating many casualties from a simulated major event.
The event is our zero to hero weekend and groups are tailored to your
experience whether you're brand new to wilderness medicine or a clinical
stage healthcare student.
To buy a ticket you must me a member of GWEMS or if you are a
paramedic science student, you must hold a GCU Emergency Care
Society membership.
