Overview

GWEMS Incredibly popular annual intro weekend.
Join us for the first residential event of the year. All members are
welcome!

We will go stay in the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel at the foot of Ben Nevis. The weekend will be spent learning or developing all the basic wilderness medicine skills.

A to E skills, Catastrophic haemorrhage, extrication skills and workshops from experts in their fields.

Previous guests have included international search and rescue team members, Pre-hospital physicians, Arrochar Mountain Rescue team and white water rescue team members.

Saturday night runs our paprticipant favourite nightime search and rescue simulation. Where you'll put your newfound skills to use in a simulated disaster finding and treating our mock casualties in the dark of the Scottish Highlands. An experience unlike anything else you'll get to do at univeristy. The Sunday between packing up  and clearing out we run mas casualty simulation. You'll take it in turns to get your acting boots on and play casualties in full moulage and makeup. Or under the expert leadership of a returning participant respond to a major incident scenario triaging, treating and evacuating many casualties from a simulated major event. The event is our zero to hero weekend and groups are tailored to your experience whether you're brand new to wilderness medicine or a clinical stage healthcare student.

This event is supported by grant funding from the Students’ Representative Council, which aims to support and elevate student-led initiatives that create more inclusive, accessible, and engaging opportunities for the wider student community.
Clinicians and helpers contact the committee directly for volunteer tickets.
