Glasgow University Students' Representative Council (GUSRC) will only accept registrations from charities, social enterprises, public bodies, or other not-for-profit organisations. Opportunities are approved at the discretion of GUSRC.
By registering as a Provider wishing to recruit volunteers through our services, you are entering a Service Level Agreement with GUSRC.
The purpose of this Agreement is to set out the criteria for organisations wishing to partner with us, and what they can expect in return. The Agreement also recognises a commitment to ensuring good practice in working with volunteers, and providing high quality, engaging and suitable volunteering opportunities.
GUSRC will:
Provide access to our free brokerage service, allowing you to advertise your volunteering opportunities to the University of Glasgow's 30,000+ students.
Invite you to attend events on campus throughout the year, including our Volunteering & Social Justice Fair.
Maintain regular contact with your organisation and offer our support and guidance with regards to recruiting volunteers and advertising opportunities.
Promote your opportunities in our student newsletter and on our social media channels, where appropriate.
Send you an email notification when a student has registered their interest in your opportunities.
Notify students of any new volunteering opportunities you advertise.
Keep you informed of any changes to our service, including contact details and changes in policy and procedures.
Formally recognise and credit the achievements of volunteers through our various reward and recognition schemes.
Encourage volunteers to log their volunteering activities, hours, and skills on their volunteer profile.
Where appropriate, provide support with Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme applications for volunteers.
Adhere to the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation and treat personal information about your organisation and your volunteers confidentially
Your organisation will:
Provide our students with appropriate and flexible opportunities that they can participate in alongside their university studies.
Reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., travel, lunch).
Provide inductions, training, and ongoing support for our volunteers to enable them to carry out their role safely and effectively.
Assign a main point of contact for volunteers within your organisation.
Respond to volunteer applications within seven days.
Ensure that volunteers are covered under Public Liability Insurance.
Provide a Health & Safety Policy and ensure that all volunteering opportunities and premises are risk assessed.
Provide a Volunteer Policy that explains volunteers' rights and responsibilities.
Adhere to an Equal Opportunities Policy and offer reasonable adjustments wherever possible to volunteers with disabilities.
Process and cover the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) applications on behalf of volunteers where applicable.
Ensure your Provider profile is up-to-date and inform us of any changes within your organisation relevant to the partnership, including contact details, application deadlines, changes in policy and procedures, and volunteering opportunities.
Assess students' suitability for your opportunities and understand that GUSRC cannot guarantee a student's personal or professional capability.
Be able to provide details of any University of Glasgow students volunteering with you and encourage them to log their volunteering hours and skills on their profile.
Comply with the General Data Protection Regulation and treat personal information about volunteers confidentially.
Ensure that all staff supporting volunteers are made aware of this agreement.
We will not consider the following:
Opportunities that do not enable our students to build upon their skills (e.g., bucket collections, handing out flyers/leaflets, data entry, etc.).
Opportunities that require a commitment of over 15 hours per week.
Overseas volunteering opportunities.
Organisations outwith the Greater Glasgow area (unless opportunities can be conducted remotely).
Opportunities which are for the promotion of specific political groups or religions.
Opportunities that would be regarded as Voluntary (unpaid) Work rather than Volunteering.
