FAQ

When is the first session?

Three evening sessions on October 12th - click here for event info.  Future sessions will be announced on our socials, so follow and keep an eye out!

Which membership should I get?

Our free membership allows you to attend our classes and socials. If you're curious about HEMA, we recommend choosing this tier first, going to a few sessions, and upgrading later if you're interested.
Our sparring membership also allows you to take part in our sparring and tournaments. This membership includes Academy of Historical Arts membership, which provides martial arts insurance and discounts on the AHA website and AHA events.
Each membership tier has two versions: Standard for UofG students, and Associate for everyone else. This only affects society election eligibility - our events are open to students and non-students alike.

Do I need any experience to take part?

No experience is required! At the beginning of each semester, our lessons start from the very basics of swordfighting, and we have plenty of experienced folks who will help newcomers get up to speed at any session. Just come along and give it a shot!

What should I bring to sessions?

Swords and safety equipment are provided. Just wear comfortable clothes for moving around, and bring a water bottle. If you have your own HEMA kit, feel free to bring it along as well.
