There are plenty of ways to be involved with your Faith at Glasgow University. GUCA is one of GU’s top student societies, and we are among the biggest and best Catholic Associations in the UK.
Much of our activity centres around our main groups: CathSoc lectures and discussions; the Society of St Maria Goretti women's group for discussion, and sisterhood; and the Society of St Cuthbert's, a men’s group for charitable service, fellowship, and the promotion of the faith; the Society of St Vincent de Paul for charitable works; the Legion of Mary Praesidium for evangelisation and apostolic activity.
We have a weekly student dinner on Sundays after our 6pm Mass, with different groups of students cooking each week. It's a great opportunity to spend time with other young Catholics in a relaxed environment!
In addition to this, we also have much, much more going on, including high-profile social events throughout the year. Feel free to get involved- in any capacity that you wish- and you’ll be made to feel welcome. Embracing a strong and positive community of other young Catholics when you’re a student is something that can give you a solid foundation for life.
So, get in touch, either through Facebook, Twitter (@GUCatholic) or Instagram (gucatholicassociation), or popping in and speaking to someone personally. GUCA is based at the Catholic Chaplaincy, right in the middle of campus at Turnbull Hall, 13/15 Southpark Terrace (about halfway between the University library and Stevenson Building).
Our chaplain is Canon Gerard Conroy, appointed as University Catholic Chaplain in 2023.
Mass is celebrated every day of the week. From Monday-Friday it takes place at 1.05 p.m., on Saturdays at 10.30 a.m., and on Sundays at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 6 p.m (Student Mass). Confessions are heard from 12.45-1.00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and from 10.00-10.25 on Saturday.
