Below, your outgoing SRC Executive for 2024-25 each reflect on their year in office and what it has meant to them individually.
The new SRC Exec take up their posts on 1st July 2025.

Pablo – SRC President
“I’m still trying to process the fact that this year is over. It doesn’t feel that long ago that we were just getting started, and it’s only now, looking back, that I realise just how much has happened.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about what this year has meant to me. I would argue that it has been an impossible experience to summarise, where I’ve learned so much and come to care deeply about the people and the issues that we have tackled together. Having the chance to work with Council was a constant reminder of how much students care, always willing to take up opportunities to shape the University to improve the student experience.
I feel incredibly lucky to have worked with Angelica, Heri, and Iris throughout the year. As a team, we’ve faced complicated issues, whether around making our campuses more accessible, or strengthening student voice (across all campuses, including those abroad), speaking out for better support for our students. Ensuring partnership remains central with student experience as the priority, even in the face of sector-wide financial uncertainty, has always remained a priority.
There’s a long list of projects I’ve had the pleasure to work on, some of which I’m very proud of. From our visit to the Glasgow College UESTC campuses in China, to our work around support provision and scholarships for Sanctuary students, and ultimately, of having the chance to speak out at a range of University committees about the pressures and challenges students are facing.
I’ve had the privilege of working with an exceptional group of people. I owe a big thank you to the SRC staff who made so much of what we did this year possible, and who continue to support such great work year in and year out.
Even with all that we have managed to do this year, there’s still plenty left to do. I know it would be impossible to get through everything on the list, but I am sure the next team will continue pushing forward, bringing fresh ideas to the role.
Now it’s time for Heri, Iris, Angelica and me to say goodbye, although I am sure we will carry this experience with us for a long time to come.”

Iris – VP Student Support
“As the end is now upon us, I can’t help but find myself reflecting greatly on everything I have learnt and all that we have achieved over what is ultimately an incredibly short period of time.
First let’s get it out of the way! It has been the honour of a lifetime to serve as your first openly Transgender and sabbatical officer, in our 140-year history. In these trying times, where minority groups are so often demonised, it so important the element of lived experience and solidarity shines through.
From planning the biggest Black History Month this University has ever seen, to marching with over 500 students against Gender-based Violence and fighting for the rights of disabled students on campus - this year has been nothing short of a whirlwind!
I’m immensely proud of not just what we have achieved together, but the multiple projects we have firmly put in motion; from the increasing work on harm reduction, to the restructuring of the Cost of Living Action Group, to doubling the Estates Disability Access Fund to £500k per annum, and working with student reps to fight for sensory rooms and prayer rooms across our campus, some of our work will far outlive my term.
Absolutely none of this would have been possible without the hard work of the permanent staff team at the SRC, whose flexibility, drive and perseverance really does keep the organisation moving!
Whilst a year is not a long time, I feel as though I’ve learnt an entirely new craft, been to entirely new worlds and spoken an entirely new language. I couldn’t have done this without the amazing support of my fellow sabbs and our dedicated student council, who continue to fight for a better campus.
But all good things must come to an end! Thank you, Glasgow, for allowing me to have the honour of a lifetime, for allowing me to fight for you and ultimately stand by you. None of this amazing work could have been completed without your support, drive and genuine care for others around you.
We really are all world changers!”

Heri – VP Education
“My year as SRC VP Education has been a great chance to learn and discover new things about the University and Higher Education in Scotland, but most importantly it has been an amazing opportunity to help students in the University and to make their educational journey better.
When I first started the job, I had more than a few projects that I wanted to work on for the year. I’m really glad that I have managed to advance or complete almost all of them! From capturing the experiences and raising the profile of Transnational Education students and their needs to contributing to the end of the review of Good Cause and other wellbeing policies, it has been great to be able to work on these changes to improve the student experience.
This year, I have also had the chance to dive right into the Scottish Tertiary Education sector, and to meet and work with people from all across the country. Bringing student perspectives into the initial round of cross-sector enhancement projects, alongside with student representatives from other Colleges and Universities has been such a positive experience, and I couldn’t be happier to have been involved in it.
Overall, it has been such a pleasure to work at the SRC this year to represent the interests of over 35,000 University of Glasgow students. This position has allowed me to grow as a person and to experience up close the great work that the SRC and others at the University do to improve the lives of students.”

“When they say time flies, it really is true! I can’t believe a whole year has flown by, and we’ve reached the end of our sabbatical term here at the SRC.
We’ve had the privilege of working with some fantastic people over the year, and for that, I can only say a massive thank you. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without our brilliant Council members steering us in the right direction and reminding us of all the hard work students put in to ensure their campus is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming. All of the staff members here at the SRC have been fundamental in ensuring this welcoming experience remains constant for students on campus, and their contribution and guidance are truly irreplaceable.
I want to say a big thank you to all the students who volunteer their free time to give back to the student community and help ensure everyone has a great university experience. Whether you’re a council member, a committee member for a club or society, or a student volunteer, we are unendingly grateful for your contribution and we recognise and appreciate all your hard work.
To my fellow sabbatical officers — Pablo, Heri, and Iris — thank you for making this the most fun sabbatical year possible, and for always being so kind and supportive! We’ve faced many challenges this year — some we’ve overcome, and others we’ve laid the groundwork for our successors to pick up and continue the fight. I’m excited to see what the new SRC sabbatical officers achieve during their time in office. Good luck, you’ll be great!
Although it’s time for us to say goodbye, I can confidently say that this year has meant so much to me, Pablo, Heri, and Iris. Thank you very much for choosing us to be your elected sabbatical officers for 2024–2025 😊”
