Dead Poets Society Newsletter 5

Hello and welcome to the fifth Dead Poets Society newsletter. We hope you’ve had a good second semester so far and had a relaxing reading week.

In February, the DPS ran a Valentine’s Day Crafts Night and another Book Shop Crawl in collaboration with the Book Society. Thank you for continuing to support the society by attending our events, we appreciate your taking to join us each month.

In March, you can look forward to our last events of the 2025/26 year. We will screen the film ‘Thelma and Louise’ to celebrate International Women’s Day (slightly late) on Tuesday 10th March. Join us at 18:00 in Boyd Orr 507 and feel free to bring snacks, cushions and your friends! We are also excited to announce a Games Night De-stress to enjoy a selection of low-key board games with fellow DPS members and enjoy a well-earned break from university stresses. We will meet in the Wee G in the SRC’s McIntyre Building at 18:00 on Monday 23rd March.

Our February Book Club discussion focused on ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Emily Brontë. Further recommendations from the Dead Poets committee include ‘Glass Town’ by Isabel Greenberg and ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Brontë. In lieu of another Book Club meeting, the Dead Poets committee will compile a list of recommendations for your summer reading to be included in the next newsletter. For those eager to get their bookish thoughts out there, we can point you towards the Book Society’s monthly book club and the Scottish Literature Society.

Finally, we can announce that our Annual General Meeting will take place online on Tuesday 31st March. The AGM will be a chance to put yourself forward for a position on the Dead Poets committee next year. We expect openings for the positions of Secretary, Events Co-ordinator and more. Stay tuned for more details such as the time and platform on which the AGM will take place through our Instagram (@gudeadpoets), the SRC website, and our next and final newsletter (March 29th).
