As weather predictions for next weekend are not too promising, we've taken the decision to move the Elgol trip to Glenbrittle campsite - as this allows us access to facilities, cafes and generally offers more 'back up' options. We're sorry for any disapointment, we were also really looking forward to the Elgol trip. As this has been rather last minute to organise, please bear with us as we update details and do our best to make things available asap - similarly please direct questions to the Community Chat (we all have dissertations due in, so direct messages are pretty likely to get missed!).
We will do our best to have tickets out by Wednesday 6pm and will update with prices soon.
As before, this event is weather dependent. (Also, Glenbrittle has a youth hostel - if you'd like to book yourself in there and just hang out in the evenings, please feel free - no ticket needed).
Camping
Our primary focus is ensuring we follow leave no trace principles. If you're new to camping, please familiarise yourself with them. If you're already comfortable with this, the rest of the details will seem common sense but please make sure to read them in full anyway.
Unlike Broadford, this is a camping trip. We have 4 person tents that we will bring from Glasgow, so you do not have to provide your own tent (although if you have one and would prefer to bring it, please feel.free to join - no ticket needed). A sleeping bag and sleeping mat, like for our other trips, will be fine.
There are toilets and showers at the campsite. There is a small cafe, but no grocery shop. This means you will need to purchase/prepare food in Broadford and ensure the food you bring can be eaten cold if you do not having a camping stove, and does not require refrigeration. We suggest minimising the amount of packaging etc. as you will be carrying your bags and can't leave a lot of rubbish behind.
We recommend warm layers (more than you might expect) as mornings / evenings can get a little chilly.
Transport
If you're joining from the Broadford trip, we plan to catch the bus to Sligachan and hike along to the Fairy Pools, before continuing over to Glenbrittle. This is a 18km hike with 200m elevation. Please bear this in mind when signing up as there are no buses to Glenbrittle, so you will need to carry all of your kit. We suggest you have experience walking distances with weight.
On Wednesday, we will need to hike back to Sligachan. From there we plan to take the 2:30pm Citylink back to Glasgow (arriving 9:15pm).
Hiking
There are several stunning hikes in the area, including the Fairy Pools and all the popular peaks. As well as the opportunity to just enjoy the beaches.
Other
As always, walking boots are required. Please consider your level of fitness and personal experience and make sure you are prepared for the event. If you have any questions feel free to ask on Instagram or through Whatsapp. (Additional note: please don't directly message committee members. While we love to help, we each have our own university deadlines, and there's no guarantee when we will see or respond to messages.)
