Overview

!!! Please read the event details in full before purchasing a ticket !!!

Tickets will be available from Monday 30th March at 6pm and will cost £12.00. (To minimise our impact on the environment, there will be significantly fewer spaces for this event.)

This event is weather dependent. There is some cold/rough weather predicted for the weekend. We keep sharing updates and but reserve the right to cancel before and during the event if we feel conditions are unsafe (or just miserable). If we cancel the event due to weather, we will make sure refund your ticket costs. Similarly, if you decide not to come due to concerns about the weather, we will refund your ticket.

Camping

Our primary focus is ensuring we follow leave no trace principles. If you're new to camping, please familiarise yourself with them. If you're already comfortable with this, the rest of the details will seem common sense but please make sure to read them in full anyway.

Unlike Broadford, this is a camping trip. We have 4 person tents that we will bring from Glasgow, so you do not have to provide your own tent (although if you have one and would prefer to bring it, please just let us know so we can plan). A sleeping bag and sleeping mat, like for our other trips, will be fine.

There are public toilets in Elgol. However, due to wildcamping restrictions and to remain respectful of residents and the natural environment, we will be camped away from the town. I.e. if you need the toilet you will need to walk (approx 3-4km) to the toilets or go outside.

Elgol does not have grocery shops (although it does have cafes and restaurants), so you will need to purchase/prepare food in Broadford and ensure the food you bring can be eaten cold if you do not having a camping stove, and does not require refrigeration. You will need to carry your rubbish for the entire trip so we suggest minimising the amount of packaging etc. You should also bring larger/additional water bottles, you can fill up bottles at the public toilets in Elgol or ask politely in cafes.

We recommend warm layers (more than you might expect) as mornings / evenings can get a little chilly.

Transport

If you're joining from the Broadford trip, you can catch the no. 55 bus from Broadford Post Office to Elgol at the following times: 7:10am, 9:35am, 12:10pm, 3:15pm (as suits your other hiking plans).

If you're joining from Glasgow, we would suggest you catch the 6:40am Citylink from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station so that you have time to arrive in Broadford and catch one of the above buses to Elgol.

On Wednesday, you can take the 8:05am or 1:05pm no.55 bus back to Broadford, and the 3:30pm Citylink back to Glasgow (arriving 9:15pm).

Hiking

From Elgol there are stunning beaches and views, hikes around the bay to Bla Bheinn and other peakes (or you can take a ferry across the bay, it is a little pricy at £22).

Other

As always, walking boots are required. Please consider your level of fitness and personal experience and make sure you are prepared for the event. If you have any questions feel free to ask on Instagram or through Whatsapp. (Additional note: please don't directly message committee members. While we love to help, we each have our own university deadlines, and there's no guarantee when we will see or respond to messages.)
