Overview

Spaces are currently full. We are working with the accommodation to bring more people. In the meantime, please sign up to our waitlist here.

Travel: We plan to meet at Glasgow Central Station at 1pm to catch the 1:13pm train to Dumfries, then the no. 500 Stagecoach across to Newton Stewart, arriving by 5pm. There are plenty of travel options (for example taking the bus to Stranraer and the 500 across) feel free to make your own way.

Accommodation: As with our Braemar trip, we'll be staying in a rented space (Vibe 75, kindly lent to us by the Newton Stewart Initiative) so you will need to bring your own sleeping kit (sleeping bag/blanket etc.). We will have limited space so please consider the size/weight of your kit (i.e. no large inflatable mattresses etc.). We will have access to a small kitchen and several grocery shops/supermarkets in easy walking distance. We will not have access to showers, only standard toilet facilities.

Hiking: We will lead a moderate/challenging hike on the Saturday and Sunday, but you are of course free to explore by yourselves. As Galloway Forest is a dark-sky park, there is also the possibility of stargazing and night hikes (weather permitting).

Standard stuff: As usual please bring sensible footwear and good kit for winter hiking. We suggest you familiarise yourself with the GUWS Safety Policy and GUSRC Code of Conduct. Tickets are £24, this covers accommodation only. You will need to organise and pay for your own travel and food.
