What is Burns Night?
Burns Night is a Scottish holiday celebrating the life and poetry of Robert 'Rabbie' Burns, Scotland's national bard. We'll honour his legacy with a traditional Burns Supper, featuring the iconic "Address to a Haggis," poetry readings, and a taste of authentic Scottish cuisine.
Your £5 ticket includes:
- Taster of haggis, neeps, and tatties served with whisky sauce (vegan/veggie, gluten free and halal options available).
- Sample of Scottish drinks, food and snacks.
- Bagpipe performance and poetry reading.
- Ceilidh dance with a professional band.
The Supper (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM):
- Held in the iconic Hunterian Museum.
- Enjoy a taster of haggis, neeps (mashed turnip), and tatties (mashed potato) served with a creamy whisky sauce. Vegetarian/vegan alternatives available.
- Delight in Scottish snacks, sweets, and soft drinks.
- Be captivated by a professional bagpiper playing live music.
- Soak up the sweet words of Scotland’s most celebrated poet.
The Ceilidh (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM):
- A ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a traditional Scottish dance night featuring a live band and a whole lot of fun.
- Move to the magnificent Bute Hall in the Main Building, where you’ll graduate one day!
- Dance the night away with our energetic ceilidh band, GU Trad Soc!
- No experience necessary - they'll guide you through the steps. moves!
