Overview

Enjoy a programme of live performances and short taster sessions led by student societies, including dance, music, and cultural demonstrations.  

 
Taster Sessions 
  • 11:30am – Kendo: Try Kendo, the Japanese “way of the sword,” in this beginner-friendly session. Learn basic techniques while experiencing a martial art focused on discipline, respect, and personal growth. 

  • 12pm – Highland Dance: Try Highland Dance and experience a vibrant part of Scottish culture in this beginner-friendly session. Come along and learn some traditional highland dance steps. 

Performances 
  • 1pm – Peking Opera Society: Experience the artistry of Chinese Peking Opera through a dynamic Wu Sheng (martial) performance, combining expressive singing with powerful choreography. Enjoy the unique “singing while fighting” style as a hero’s journey unfolds. 

  • 1:15pm – Indian Dance Association: Enjoy a wee showcase of Indian dance, featuring styles from classical forms like Kathak and Bharatanatyam to energetic Bollywood and Kuthu. Celebrating music and movement, this lively performance is full of energy! 

  • 1:30pm – Trad Society: Drop in for an acoustic performance of traditional music from Scotland by the Glasgow University Trad Society. Featuring a few folks tunes inspired by Scotland’s rich musical heritage, this relaxed set captures the spirit of trad sessions and ceilidh culture. 

  • 1:45pm – Azerbaijan Society: Join the Azerbaijan Society for a captivating Yalli performance, a masterpiece of Azerbaijani folk dance that is one of the oldest and most treasured forms of Azerbaijani culture. 

  • 2pm – Indian Society: Join for a vibrant Indian Society dance performance that celebrates the rich diversity of India’s cultural heritage and expressive storytelling with a mix of Indian music. 

  • 2:15pm – East African Society: Celebrate the beauty and diversity of East African culture through a vibrant showcase of traditional attire. Experience stunning fabrics, styles, and designs that reflect the rich heritage of the region. 

  • 2:30pm – K-Pop Society: Experience the energy of K-pop, a global phenomenon from South Korea blending catchy music and intricate choreography. Catch a high-energy performance with a mix of mainstream songs in the industry!
