Overview

Join the Tea Society for the opening evening of our Tea Cultural Month, celebrating the rich traditions of tea across cultures. This first event explores the tea heritage of China and Japan, two regions that have shaped global tea culture.

During the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to taste a selection of traditional Chinese and Japanese teas, while learning about their cultural origins, preparation methods, and social significance. We will introduce the history behind each tea and demonstrate how they are traditionally prepared and enjoyed. From the elegance of Japanese tea traditions to the diversity of Chinese tea culture, the event offers a relaxed setting to explore how tea connects history, ritual, and everyday life.

Participants are encouraged to move between tea stations, sample different teas, and engage in informal discussions with the organisers about the cultural practices surrounding them. Whether you are already interested in tea or simply curious to learn more, the event provides an accessible introduction to some of the most influential tea traditions in the world.

This event is supported by grant funding from the Students’ Representative Council, which aims to support and elevate student-led initiatives that create more inclusive, accessible, and engaging opportunities for the wider student community.
